Responsibilities
1. Design, analyze, develop, modify and test mainframe programs.
2. Work with business units in resolving issues found during system testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing.
3. Work with business units and batch technicians in researching and resolving issues identified in production.
4. Work with business units in developing, documenting, and implementing retirement plans for mainframe systems identified for end of life.
5. Perform research as requested in an effort to supply answers to technical questions submitted by business units.
6. Estimate, manage and track activities to a timeline.
7. Assist peers with system functionality, programming advice and testing techniques.
8. Lead development tasks required as part of mainframe upgrade efforts (for example DB2 upgrades, COBOL upgrades, etc.).
Perform mainframe system documentation to include but not limited to:
architectural/design documentation
technical documentation (documentation of code and batch jobs)
operational documentation (documentation of daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual mandatory tasks performed to keep mainframe systems running).
9. Perform other tasks, assignments and responsibilities as directed.
Mandatory Requirements
1. BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related technical discipline (may be substituted with a combination of education and comparable work experience).
2. Strong development skills. Minimum of 5 years of application development and support of complex COBOL/DB2/SQL/JCL/SAS mainframe systems using Changeman and Host On Demand in a z/OS environment.
3. Strong analysis skills. Experience with business process analysis, including requirements gathering and development of functional and technical specifications (minimum of 5 years).
4. Strong troubleshooting and issue resolution skills.
5. Experience with decommissioning of legacy systems.
6. Ability to perform research, perform queries and data analysis, review code and review technical documentation to effectively provide meaningful responses to customer queries and request for information.
7. Ability to reasonably estimate work effort for various projects and assignments, including instances where there is short notice and/or minimal information is available.
8. Ability to draft and maintain clear documentation.
9. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access.
10. Excellent organization, verbal and written communication skills.
11. Advanced interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with peers, internal, and external customers.
12. Self-starter with the ability to work independently or as a team, with minimal direct supervision.
13. Ability to work on site in Madison, WI 100% of the time.
14. Ability to be available outside of normal business hours as needed.
Nice to have requirements
1. Experience with Government or similar organizations, preferably on large scale, complex technology-oriented projects.
2. Mainframe Application/Product Experience (FileAid, IMS, QuickRef, SyncSort, PkZip/MVS, JobScan, ASG-ESW Suite, ListCat Plus) (2+ years of experience with at least 3 of the above tools).
3. Experience in data conversion and data normalization protocols.
