Database Administrator III (Hive DBA)

Reston, VA

Long term contract

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

Design and create database schema scripts (DDL), deploy schema build scripts, maintain database baselines, support application requirements, testing and implementations. Must follow all migration policies and processes.

Hands-on Big Data experience, particularly with acting as DBA/Engineer on Hadoop stack (HDFS, Hive, Ranger, and Atlas).

Expertise in Hive Query Language (HQL) and Hive internals (internal/external tables, partitions, clustering, Metastore, etc.); ability to analyze and provide recommendation for performance tuning.

Experience with creating Spark/Python scripts to create UDFs to enhance HQL.

UNIX operating system experience including shell scripting and file management.

Physical Data Modeling experience, particularly on MPP platforms such as Netezza is preferred

Participate in modeling initiatives (object, logical), data analysis and application of corporate standards.

Create sound database physical design models from object or logical models (translate from traditional RDBMs to Big Data databases such as Hive/HBase)

Prepare status reports to accurately communicate progress; provide early notification of problems that could affect schedules, or the integrity or availability of data.

Relational database concepts, relational logical modeling, best practices, and physical design experience.

Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and influencing skills.

Hands on development/admin experience in Hadoop

Industry recognized Hadoop certification is preferred
