Position: Lead DevOps Engineer

Location: San Jose, CA

Duration : 6+ Months

 

The DevOps Software Engineering lead should be self-driven and have the ability to work in a distributed team by developing and maintaining complex application and database release automation scripts. Ideal candidate should hold strong knowledge of DevOps engineering related to Continuous Integration/Delivery solutions & Platform Automation with programming background (preferably in Java, Python). The position will be responsible to design and build automated processes keeping reproducibility, auditability and traceability in view for all deliverables. This position will work closely with Developers, QA and Operations team to ensure good quality automation is implemented on application and database systems. A successful candidate will establish good working relationships with offshore and onshore teams, providing automation and support through the development cycle for any required changes to the build and release processes required to get a product released into test and production environments.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Work with cross functional, geographically distributed team to provide 24X7 deployment support across multiple test and production environments

·         Work closely with development teams to integrate projects into AWS production environment and ensure ongoing support and maintenance as needed

§  Gain a deep application-level knowledge of the systems:  contribute to overall design.

§  Be a DevOps champion - work closely with other teams to build security, reliability, and scalability into the development lifecycle.

§  Dive deep into the software stack to troubleshoot as needed.

·         Build engineering automation and productivity tools to streamline and scale applications in the production environment

·         Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to application development, deployment and operations

·         Build from the ground up reliable infrastructure services in AWS to deliver highly scalable services

·         Team player and leader:  Work with a team of peers who are smart, professional, pull their own weight, and share a passion for what they're creating.

 

Current technologies used in the environment:

·         AWS main Services (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC…)

·         Tomcat

·         Wowza

·         No SQL database:  AWS DynamoDB, Cassandra

·         MySQL & Postgres

·         Big data - Hadoop

·         CHEF

·         AWS WAF

·         Jenkins

·         SVN,

·         JIRA & Confluence

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

·         Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer engineering or related technical fields

·         AWS DevOps certification

·         5+ years of Unix/Linux administration and experience with CI/CD

·         10 + overall experience in software/IT industry

·         Very strong scripting and automation skills – You believe in automation

·         Solid experience and background working with AWS services (EC2, VPC, ELB, S3, CloudFormation, RDS, SQS, etc…)

·         Proficiency with the AWS CLI.

·         Experience with Infrastructure as Code

·         Solid operations background -  When building solution, you are think about how the solution may fail

·         Experience working in an iterative based development environment using Agile/SCRUM or Kanban

·         Familiarity with build & release automation tools and methodologies like Jenkins

 

 Skills and Knowledge:

 

• Expertise with strong knowledge on Source Code Management, Continuous Integration/Delivery solutions (Git/Stash, Jenkins)
• Experience in maintaining Linux based virtual machines on Test, Staging and Production environments 
• Familiarity in supporting and maintaining, scalable enterprise-class applications in public cloud (AWS/Azure) or private cloud solutions
• Experience with container management technology (Docker or ECS technology )
• Experience with configuration management and automation tools (Chef is a plus )
• Experience with Cassandra, Hadoop, or Spark
• Experience with ElasticSearch, Kibana, LogStash.
• Experience with Ansible
• Automate monitoring and test disaster recovery and backup functions
• Support highly available production environments
• Hands on experience with monitoring/data collection tools
• Knowledge of IP networking, VPN's, DNS, load balancing and firewalls
• Experience in developing end-to-end build/release automation for complex solutions for large-scale enterprise systems
• Knowledge of good coding practices towards measuring improved code quality and database concepts.
• Demonstrates ability to lead technical discussions among software development engineers
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
