Our well-established, fast growing client is seeking a Software Engineer to work on developing highly available and distributed server applications for all markets served.  You will be part of the team that researches, designs, develops and operates the core data systems of the company. The central systems ingest a wide range of weather and aviation data and build value added products.

You will work closely with product management and customers to understand and refine market requirements. You will also work closely with the other members of the team to support the operation of the central servers. This role is hands-on, and you'll be implementing alongside other  developers while championing a clean, pragmatic design for the entire system.

 

• Design and implement highly available systems for ingesting and distributing weather and aviation data
• Prepare, collaborate on, and review Software Engineering designs and implementations in Scala and Java using functional and OO programming
• Contribute to and review product requirements and QA test plans
• Help customer support in identifying and resolving operational issues

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• At least 5 years of related experience in full cycle software development with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities
• Experience with software development in Java, including build automation tools such as Maven
• Experience with non-relational (NoSQL) databases
• Experience with in-memory data stores and caches
• Experience with large scale data/distributed systems
• Experience with multithreading and concurrency
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, agile development, build processes, testing, and operations 

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

• Experience with cloud computing and Scala
• Knowledge of Cassandra, Redis, MongoDB

Be resourceful and collaborate with respective teams to quickly solve performance and scalability challenges •             Partner with architects and suggest performance best practices •             Demonstrate a technical aptitude to do a deep-dive into problem areas and contribute to redesigns that are faster, cleaner, and require less maintenance   ABOUT YOU •             Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering •             Minimum 5 years of experience in performance engineering, testing and profiling of high volume applications •             At least 3+ years of total experience as a hands-on C or java developer •             Expert in following Performance Testing tools: HP Performance Center, LoadRunner and JMeter •             Hands-on performance analysis of resource utilization, saturation, stack trace analysis etc. using one of the following profiling tools: YourKit or JProfiler •             Strong knowledge and analysis skills in at least 1 of the of the following APM tools: CA Wily Introscope and Splunk •             Experience with performance tuning and benchmarking J2EE and AngularJs applications •             Knowledge of following databases: Oracle, MongoDB, DB2 •             Prior experience or knowledge in performance testing MuleSoft applications   •             Excellent written and verbal communications skills •             Excellent programming knowledge of C or Java required. Scala or Python is a plus •             Strong scripting skills (Shell, JavaScript is a plus) •             Must have good understanding of UNIX/Linux O/S •             Experience integrating performance testing in Continuous integration and deployment framework using Jenkins or Puppet is a plus. •             Knowledge and experience of service virtualization is a plus •             Must have strong problem-solving skills •             Must be a self-starter with passion to take on challenges and innovate
