Job Summary:

Digital Media Applications team is a core group of developers with a startup mentality within a Fortune 100 company. The primary responsibility of this role is to develop, maintain, support, and troubleshoot applications and web services used by the internal post production team. As a member of this agile team you will work closely with other Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Production staff (end users) to plan, design, prototype, develop, test, deploy and support existing and new more efficient and automated workflows geared toward a lean, fast-paced production unit. This is a unique opportunity for a self-motivated Software Engineer with quality organizational and communication skills who finds fulfillment in seeing firsthand their applications and workflows implemented and utilized by the end user. 

Responsibilities:

Design, Development and Architecture 

• Designs, develops, documents and maintains code to automate and optimize the production pipeline. 
• Develops test cases and test plans, creates the test environment, and conducts unit and system tests for new and/or modified programs. 
• Applies structured analysis, design and programming techniques with proficiency. 

Technology Reviews 

• Researches and reviews new software, operating system and 3rd party technologies. 
• Evaluates new technologies against competitors and validate the usability of the technology. 

Security 

• Works closely with Production Systems Engineering to establish and audit system and directory service security. 
• Works closely with software developers to provide a secure application environment. 

Project Support 

• Works closely with other application developers to deliver creative solutions to complex technology challenges and business requirements.
• Recommends and oversees technical solutions and implementation timelines in support of production application requirements. 
• Ensures infrastructure standards and best practices are followed. 

Production Support 

• Works with Operations and Engineering teams to deploy new software and support existing installations. 
• Works closely with other system administrators, application developers and production personnel to gain a thorough understanding of the architecture of the Production system being supported.
• Works closely with production personnel to understand production needs and desired development. 
• Serves as an escalation point for server issues within Production IT. 
• Helps to develop standards, policies and procedures as well as best practices documentation. 

Administrative

• Works with other Software Engineers and application developers to continually improve production support levels. 
• Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis. 
• Adheres to department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices. 

Required Experience:

• Minimum 5 years programming experience. 
• Minimum 5 years Java programming and web technology experience. 
• Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) 
• Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g and/or 12c preferred (BPEL, BPM, Weblogic, OSB, and ADF) 
• Experience in an Agile development environment. 
• Experience with rapid prototyping. 

Optional Experience: 

• Production experience in developing tools toward automating Media Post Production workflows a plus. 
• Experience working with portal frameworks, digital asset management systems, and web content management systems a plus. 
• Familiarity with Video Processing, Audio and Video codecs, and Transcoding Systems a plus. 
? Required Knowledge: 
• Mastery level knowledge of J2EE, J2SE. 
• Mastery level knowledge of Spring. 
• Mastery level knowledge of Hibernate. 
• Mastery understanding of multithreading, data structures and design patterns. 
• Comprehensive knowledge of Application Servers (examples WebLogic and Tomcat). 
• Comprehensive understanding of web service integration (example: REST and SOAP XML). 
• Comprehensive knowledge of Object Oriented Design and Programming. 
• Comprehensive knowledge of XML schemas and XML methodologies. 
• Comprehensive knowledge of deployment strategies of distributed and multi-tiered applications. 
• Good understanding of SQL. 
? Optional Knowledge 
• Good understanding of UML a plus. 
• Good understanding of scripting languages (examples: Python, Perl, Bash) a plus. 
• Good knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) a plus. 
• Oracle Certified Professional, Java (SE 5, SE 6,or SE 7) Programmer or Sun Certified Java Programmer (any edition) preferred.
