Overview:

Our client, a leading financial institution, seeks an Apps Systems Engineer.

The Application Systems Engineer (ASE) is part of the CSTS (Consumer Credit Services and Technology Solutions) team in the Retail Lending organization, focusing on Java middleware applications.

The ASE 5 will assist in providing application deployment guidance and consultation, utilizing a thorough understanding of applicable technology, tools and existing designs. This individual will work with technical leads, business analysts, system analysts, DBA's, infrastructure and other cross-department teams to evaluate business needs and provide end-to-end technical solutions. 

Responsibilities include: 

• Closely partnering with Business Analysts and Developers on application definition, design, development, integration, testing, and support of reliable and reusable Java software solutions 

• Analyze highly complex business requirements; generate technical specifications to design or redesign Web Services

• Independent Hands-on Development - Maintains existing rules engine applications and maybe some web services, and develops new, complex original code and/or rules while practicing test-driven development and taking end-to-end ownership of your part of the functionality 

• Acts as an expert technical resource for modeling, simulation and analysis efforts and provides coding direction to less experienced staff 

• Work with team members to provide insight into solving complex problems with rules engine applications while leveraging enterprise and industry best practices (including scalability, availability, maintainability, flexibility, and reusability) 

• Verify system logic by unit testing and debugging during development and QA cycles 

• Work with QA teams to conduct integrated (application and database) stress testing, performance analysis and tuning 

• Support systems testing and migration of platforms and applications to production. This includes after hours and weekend support typically four times per year (quarterly) 

• Develop new documentation, departmental technical procedures and user guides 

• Ensure quality, security and compliance requirements are met 

• Work within our existing frameworks, but help improve them by staying current with rules engine, J2EE development, architecture and database technologies to constantly improve software quality, efficiency and ease of use 

• Accurately estimate software development, testing, deployment and conversion time-frames 

• Actively listen to and cooperatively work with other internal team members in order to contribute positively to updates and changes to the application

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, related educational experience, or related professional experience

• Must have recent senior-level experience and be able to work independently, know when to reach out for assistance, and be able to follow technical requirements and established standards

• 5+ years of Java middleware or server-side development experience

• 4+ years SQL/JDBC and relational database experience

• 1+ years of J2EE Web Service Development

• 1+ years of XML/XSD/WSDL/Schemas/SOAP/REST

• Experience using: JUnit, DAO, EJB, MDB, ANSI SQL

• Demonstrated experience profiling and performance tuning medium to complex enterprise applications

• Production Support experience

• Proven ability to independently design and develop a Java application including a rules engine from scratch

• Proven ability to write clean, testable, elegant code while embracing the principles of software design

• Experience with relational databases

• Must be self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented and able to execute tasks independently and within a team environment.

• Ability to accurately estimate time required for development /debugging tasks

• Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and manage multiple responsibilities

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Evaluates leading-edge technologies and uses this information to influence future business strategies

• Candidates should display a willingness to learn, while also offering their own insight, suggestions and feedback.
