Position: Database administration or DBA

Location: Reston, VA

Contract: 6+ Months

MANDATORY in BOLD

• 7-10 years of experience working as senior database administration DBA position 
• Strong database administration experience in latest Sybase ASE version 15.7 and Replication Server version 15.7 
• Experience in installation, configuration, and migration with both Sybase and MS-SQL database platforms 
• Good understanding of Sybase internals and optimizer functioning and ability to apply the skills to trouble-shoot real time production issues 
• Strong database performance tuning skills - query optimization and server tuning with Sybase and SQL platforms 
• Provide deployment support for database objects in production and test environment 
• Provide 24/7 on call production support on rotation basis 
• Extremely comfortably in Unix shell scripting and should have prior experience in writing and maintaining complex database scripts 
• Prior experience in migrating Sybase from Solaris to Linux platform and Sybase to SQL platform 
• Be able to independently plan and execute large database migration projects 

• Experience in Sybase Warm standby and MSA replication setup and support 
• Experience with standard database monitoring tools such as Quest -Foglight/spotlight 
• Familiar with technologies like VMware/VMHA, SRDF and SRM used for database HA & DR solutions 
• Knowledge and experience with enterprise-wide disaster recovery activities 
• Effective verbal and writing communication skills 

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology. Relevant certification or work experience

Key Skills: Ability to design, develop, implement and maintain database systems to support business needs. 

Experience in database creation and maintenance, database testing, problem resolution, and management of database integration activities. 

Expertise as Database Engineer/Administrator for any of the RDBMS - Sybase/MS-SQL; including Sybase Replication server experience. 

NOTE: Candidate should be open to work in shifts including weekends/nightshifts to provide 24/7 database administration support.
