Job Description:

Developer

·         Analyst creates requirements and the development team then will work through

·         Varying levels of expertise on the development team

·         Knowledge of all data – not split up by teams

·         Take requirements and churn out the report requested

·         Think through what they are delivering – what is it going to look like to the user

·         If they have a better way to show or highlight the data, we want them to produce the suggestions to the analyst

·         Cognos – the only tool used for delivering the tools

·         Some users only know how to create from existing data, some do it through cubes

·         THEY WANT – someone who knows Cognos – MUST have, STRONG SQL skills

·         SSIS – could work as an alternative

·         Will be given the requirements but there is room for them to be creative/innovative

Job Overview:

Under general supervision, a Business Intelligence Developer Level 2 creates advanced reports based on data stored on various B&H databases and the central data warehouse. Under minimal or no supervision, Cognos reporting software is used to customize and create reports based on specific internal requests. The requirements and parameters of the report are then further developed and published in a timely manner.

 Essential Responsibilities:

• Receive advanced report requests and prioritize needed action
• Research and determine the parameters and in depth requirements of report
• Maintain clear and open line of communication with report requestor(s), to ensure proper report creation 
• Generate accurate reports utilizing various Cognos tools, including OLAP cubes and Transformer
• Address issues and resolve requests for additional information

Preferred Education, Experience and Licenses:

• Proficiency with Cognos's tools as well as their interface, layout, and popular commands
• Design and develop OLAP cubes for future report generation
• Expertise of SQL coding language and manipulation of back-end code
• Advanced understanding of data warehouse design and report generation process
• Advanced understanding of table links and data connections

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• 2-3 years using Cognos reporting tools
• Knowledge of B&H policies and procedures
• Articulate communicator and analytical thinker

• Professional phone demeanor
• Excellent grammar skills and writing ability
• Detail-oriented and quick thinker
