POSITION SUMMARY The employer, a national banking software company, is expanding its front office development team. The employer is looking for a Java Programmer to join its existing staff to enhance its core services and platform banking systems The role of the Java Developer is to plan, document, develop and test financial applications. The Java Developer helps evaluate user requests for new or modified programs in order to determine feasibility, cost, and time required, compatibility with the current system, and the computer capabilities required. The Java Developer then converts the project specifications, using flowcharts and diagrams, into a sequence of detailed instructions and logical steps by applying knowledge of computer programming techniques and various languages. The Java Developer analyzes, reviews, and alters programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. At times, the Java Developer will also train users to use programs, oversee installation of hardware and software, provide technical assistance to program users, install and test programs at user sites, and monitor performance of programs after implementation.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES • Formulate plans outlining steps required to develop applications using structured analysis and design • Write documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections • Prepare flowcharts and diagrams to illustrate sequence of steps programs must follow and to describe logical operations involved • Perform manual and automated tests to detect syntax or logic errors • Edit code to correct errors • Assist users to solve operating problems; i.e., recreate steps taken by the user to locate the source of the problem, and rewrite the program to correct errors found • Assist with writing manuals for users to describe installation and operating procedures • Read manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn new ways to develop programs that meet user requirements
SELECTION CRITERIA • Prefer at least three years' experience with core banking and/or financial software development • Experience with Java, Java Script, JQuery, SQL, and HTML5/CSS3 • Familiar with Microsoft SQL Server and/or DB2 • Experience with Apache Wicket (component-based web application framework for the Java programming language) is a plus, although experience with Sun Microsystems' JavaServer Pages (JSP) is adequate • Working knowledge of IBM AS/400 (iSeries) hardware/operating system is a plus • Ability to recognize problems and react quickly • Organized, detail-oriented and dependable work habits • Must be highly motivated and fully engaged, with a commitment to high standards and possessing a zero‑defect mindset • Excellent communication skills • Strong customer service skills required • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines, to work overtime, and/or be "on call" as needed
