Lead Application Developer

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Technical Team Supervisor for the Enterprise Application Services group, the Lead Software Developer leads the design, development and implementation of enhancements for new development efforts and existing applications supported by the unit. The primary application focus is the self-service web site At Your
Service Online including back end transaction processing.
The incumbent serves as one of the primary technical java resources for the Enterprise Application Services team, other ITS staff, and campus technical partners. The Technical leader applying advanced application programming concepts to design and develop complex application architecture. Provide analysis for highly complex programs, formulate logic for new web based applications and perform/oversee the development.
Reviews and prepares flowcharting and data analysis for existing applications for potential inclusion into an existing application framework and/or building out a new application framework that could be utilized by several applications.
Creates technical design documents, prepare time estimates, develops conversion and/or integration plans as well as system implementation plans.
Prepares and obtains sign off of technical design documents, initiates and recommends changes in development, maintenance and system standards. Interacts with senior level internal personnel, business customers and management and stays abreast of industry trends and best practices to continually improve personal and enterprise knowledge of the Java platform.
Required Qualifications
· Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and a minimum of 5-7 years' experience, 3 of those years should be recent experience with J2EE application servers (i.e. WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss).
· Extensive experience in J2EE frameworks including Struts, Spring, Hibernate, Web Services and JDBC along with web technologies including JSP, HTML, CSS, and XML.
· Experience with Eclipse based IDE's and source control systems such as CVS.
· Experience in RDBMS (DB2/Oracle/Sybase) design and SQL is required along with object oriented design patterns such as MVC.
· Extensive experience in cross platform solutions which utilize a variety of technologies and identifying and documenting the best technical solution for each business requirement.
· Demonstrated ability and experience in providing leadership for application solution development and maintenance.
· Experience in standard UNIX/Linux utilities/editors, thorough understanding of batch processing including writing shell scripts to run batch jobs.
· A demonstrated understanding of complex, data-driven application development and strong analytical skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms and complex business concepts in technical terms.
· Collaborates with core team members, subject matter experts and business partners.
· Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to interact with others in a consistently positive manner, exercising discretion and tact.
