We are seeking a SQL DBA for a project in Louisville, KY

 

SQL DBA
6+ Months Contract
Louisville, KY
 
Sound knowledge of MS SQL 2008/r2 (includes disk provisioning and RAID)
Migrating from MS SQL 2005 to 2008
Migrating form MS SQL 2008 to 2012
Using VMWare vSphere or Hyper V to perform administration
Good communication skills (9/10)

 

The SQL DBA will assist in upgrading SQL 2005 Server to  SQL 2008 / 2008R2  and SQL 2008 / 2008R2 to SQL 2012.  Additional duties will be leading some sub-phase of the project and coordinating with application owners.
An ideal candidate will be an experienced SQL DBA with 5+ years as a DBA working with MS SQL databases. Having sound knowledge of MS SQL Server 2008, 2008 r2 and 2012 is needed. One will also need experience with SQL Server running virtual environment. Ideally one will have used VMWare vSphere MS Hyper V to perform administration.
 
Required Skills & Experience
3+ years of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / 2008R2 / 2012 experience and performing:
Administration,  patching, and installation of SQL Server based on design reqs.
Expertise in config, modification, and security access topology for SQL Server.
Administration, implementation of Windows high availability clustering
Extensive experience working with Performance counters to interpret the health of a server
Experience with disk provisioning and RAID topology
Experience with Windows PowerShell scripting to automate administrative functions
Implementation experience with upgrading between SQL 2005  to SQL 2008 / 2008R2 / 2012 and/or SQL 2008 / 2008R2 to SQL 2012
Expertise and direct experience in backup and restore methodologies and recoverability
Expertise and direct experience in disaster recovery methodologies (mirroring, log-shipping, replication, multi-site high availability groups)
 
Desired (Preferred) Skills & Experience
Strong understanding of MS SQL development methodologies (stored procedures, triggers, UDTs, scalar and table value UDFs, views, cross-database query, linked-server, and sequences)
Strong understanding of relational OLTP database modeling
Experience with OLAP database modeling (fact / dimension models, slowly-changing dimensions)
Experience in database tuning, monitoring, tracing, and maintenance of relational databases,  and VLDB environments
Understanding of server-network and server-SAN  interfaces
