Network Engineer in Baltimore, MD
3-6months
The Network Engineer will be responsible for the implementation of network projects from inception to completion involving LAN multiprotocol enterprise environments, wireless technology solutions, and the deployment of new technology implementations.
The Network Engineer will act as an escalation point from the Network Operations Center to the Network engineering team. It should be expected that there could be after business hours work requirements to troubleshoot and correct outage situations and/or implement new network projects. The candidate must possess a sense of urgency and be able to work well under pressure during system restoration activities.
As such, the candidate should possess experience using various network management tools and/or other standard industry network management tools and be able to work collaboratively with other support groups such as the security and server teams when diagnosing system issues or the implementation of network projects. The candidate must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct network issues.
Responsibilities:
Deliver timely and accurate diagnosis of system issues and corrective actions
Deliver timely and well documented system implementation according to project schedule
Follow all documented LM, IS&GS-CIVIL and HHS program processes including configuration management policies and procedures
Understand and achieve individual and team objectives/milestones
Support assigned Integrated Product Team (IPT) by:
1. participating in team activities and meetings
2. support team planning, and assist in establishing team priorities
3. maintaining a team oriented approach and positive attitude
4. communicate effectively and constructively with all members of the team
5. suggest process/product improvements to enhance the quality and/or timeliness of program efforts
Minimum Qualifications:
5-7 years of network troubleshooting experience preferably with Cisco routers and switches
Strong background and understanding of the following technologies:
1. Spanning tree protocol
2. Vlans
3. Trunking
4. Switching technologies troubleshoot and diagnose
5. Familiarity with 2 or more of the following devices
1. Cisco 3560 3750x 4500 6500 3845 3945 1841
6. WAN MPLS Functionality including T1, DS3, and Frame Relay
7. Deployment of wireless technology solutions
8. Use and/or deployment of IPV6
WAN – understanding MPLS functionality, T1, DS3, Frame relay
1. Period of Performance
This position will be for a full time employee, with a POP through 9/30/2013. LM will assess the need for extension near the end of the current POP.
2. Personnel Requirements
2.1. Experience
An undergraduate degree (BA/BS) from an accredited university in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent work experience. Technical certifications and/or completion of technical courses a plus.
