Job Description:

BI Analyst Level 2

Summary: Gathers specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs. Escalate report requests to BI Developers or Run ad hoc analysis and advanced querying

3+ years' experience with BI reporting tool, Cognos Report Studio is preferred. Proficient with SQL coding language 

Job Overview:

Business Intelligence (BI) is used to support a wide range of business reports and analyses ranging from operational to strategic, for monitoring and improving business performance. The reports and analyses are created using BI tools and methods to query and mine data stored on various databases and multi-dimensional datasets (cubes) including but not limited to the central Data Warehouse. The data is collected and aggregated then presented in worksheets, pivots, charts, dashboards or story-telling platforms. The BI department also creates self-service modules for business users that enables them to make decisions based on their own queries and analyses. 

The BI Analyst Level 2 analyzes complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets to locate influences. Gathers specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs. He/she will create proper technical documentation in the work assignments. He/she is involved in gathering technical requirements for the Data Warehouse as needed. Under minimal supervision the BI Analyst Level 2 will use BI tools to create or modify ad-hoc or scheduled reports. Additionally, he/she is involved in formatting, summarizing and selecting the right visualization to present the data in a meaningful way. The BI Analyst Level 2 is involved in the effective execution of BI projects. 

The BI Analyst Level 2 consistently verifies data integrity and report performance, he/she ensures that the clients remain satisfied. Furthermore, a BI Level 2 Analyst assists lower level analysts with assignments or projects and assists BI Developers with report logic and requirements. 

Essential Responsibilities:

• Receive advanced report requests and prioritize needed action
• Research and determine requirements for reports and analysis based on business needs and/or available data elements, provide clear report requirements including source paths, tables and logic 
• Familiarize with source data and user applications (UNIX, Salesforce, Etc)
• Analyze and evaluate business reporting needs as well as their relationship to the Data Warehouse
• Escalate report requests to BI Developers or Run ad hoc analysis and advanced querying
• Provide consultation to business users and help them understand the data
• Question, examine & interpret business data into meaningful insights
• Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices

Preferred Education, Experience and Licenses:

• 3+ years' experience with BI requirements gathering, analysis, documentation and popular commands
• 3+ years' experience with BI reporting tool and OLAP cubes, Cognos Report Studio is preferred
• Proficient with SQL coding language
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Visio Excel, Access)
• Prior experience in client presentation is preferred
• Experience in a corporate retail environment a plus

• Ability to work on tight deadlines and constantly changing requirements
