Job Description:

The big data engineer will participate in the design sessions with the architect. Big data engineers develop, maintain, test, and evaluate large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed data applications and systems. This person will use Hadoop based technologies on the cloud such as MapReduce, Hive, Cassandra, etc. This person will engineer data platforms which will allow our vehicles to communicate to the cloud and engineer data warehouse solutions.

Responsibilities

• Will operate in a highly-iterative agile development environment and deliver significant functionality every week
  
• Will design, develop, test, and document features for large scale data platforms
  
• Will participate in the full development cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation, and testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.
  
• Will think independently to solve difficult data problems
  
• Will work closely with product owners to deliver features to customers
  
• Will load, clean, document, and maintain data sets into the platforms
  
• Will code and script with automation in mind
  
• Will balance and guide data engineering activities with team member engineers and partner/supplier engineers
  

Requirements 

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and five+ years of as a Software Engineer, Software Developer, or a related occupation.
  
• Show a sense of ownership and pride in your code, and you can make us believe you'll excel
  
• Have in-depth knowledge of design patterns and proven experience with relevant technologies.
  
• Be comfortable with both Linux and Windows operating systems
  
• Must have Java, C#, C, C++, Python, Ruby, and/or R scripting/programming languages.
  
• Must have working experience and be able to differentiate between relational/non-relational database systems
  
• Experience with Object Oriented Design, and distributed programming is a plus
  
• Experience with cloud computing, service oriented architectures and high scale distributed applications is a plus.
