Mainframe Development Lead
Location: Herndon, VA
Longevity: 6 months+
Needs prior mainframe experience. Needs supervisory interest - first step up from developer, does hands on work. Making tasks assignments, well organized. Is the "go to" person for the team but not doing coding but capable of looking at code.
Development Manager
The Development Manager deals with internal clients and manage expectations regarding application development with staff resources. Assign and manage development staff assigned to particular projects and provide technical oversight on projects. Hire, manage, develop and evaluate staff. Manage and own assets in the technology space. Manage development, operational and control aspects for business aligned technology services as an application asset owner.
Responsibilities
• Confer with management and/or the client (Business team) and determine technical requirements of pending or current projects. Assess how development objectives can best be met using current staff and resources.
• Coordinate and administer assignments to projects, monitor team progress, and maintain schedules. Report to clients as necessary.
• Meet with various teams concerned with programming, development, testing, and acceptance and provide technical assessment and provision of appropriate resources at different stages of project
• May need to provide technical contributions to current project.
• Ensure that project(s) are conducted in accord with the organization's structured methodology and standards for application development.
• Communicate with and may oversee project managers assigned to projects on which relevant staff are assigned.
• Plan, manage, document and evaluate staff performance. Ensure continued technical and professional development of staff and provide ongoing technical guidance and direction.
• Manage and own assets in the system. Lead, manage, and oversee projects, and daily operations related to: assessing business and technology processes and needs for the asset. Actively contributing to the long term planning for the asset, managing and requesting funding.
Required Skills
• 6-8 years of related management experience
• Experience managing resources and releases
• Experience with IBM mainframe programming languages and databases
• Must be capable of engineering/understanding solutions effectively based on requirements
• Experience with SDLC - moving the releases/projects through the entire SDLC lifecycle is required.
• Change Management, Problem management, Incident management and level 3 production support experience is desired.
• The right attitude to drive new tools adoption and implementation is required.
• Must be driven, self-directed, solution oriented and energetic with the ability to motivate and effect change.
• Strong Technology leadership skills
