Spring, TX but will travel to Downtown Houston and other Data Center locations for upgrades/ onsite system troubleshooting
The Linux Administrator/ Engineer will mainly provide Seismic Tape Processing Support for the Support Team within the Linux environment, which include Tape System support and engineering. A Linux System Administrator/ Engineer with extensive Tape System & Scripting background is a must
Description:
· Engineering and support for IBM tape systems, libraries and tape drives supporting containing seismic data needed within the HPC environment (understanding of use of tape systems / libraries necessary)
· Engineering and Support for Linux servers / infrastructure in Linux environment
· Scripting and support for key interfaces allowing integration of tape systems with servers and applications (Perl, Kornshell, C Code)
· Troubleshooting / support for customers utilizing seismic data for processing within the environment - good customer service skills needed
· Working with internal IT support groups including HPC, tape, and application analysts
· Working with vendors including IBM for external product support
· Onsite work in data center sometimes required during system upgrades or troubleshooting issues
Operating Systems:
CentOS/RHEL (6.x, 5.x)
Administration Items:
· Linux server administration & remote access: VNC, X-Win32, PuTTY configuration and troubleshooting; Linux certification preferred (RHEL / CentOS)
· Software Development/ Scripting Support: support and maintain small scripts and programs used for integration of tape systems (languages: Perl, Kornshell, C code)
· Bash Scripting: for Linux administration and support duties
· Troubleshooting: experience in supporting and troubleshooting tape library problems (IBM preferred), has understanding of Tape system architecture, and knowledgeable on use of tape as storage medium.
· OS related Infrastructure Technologies: Parallel filesystems (gpfs) and standard journaling filesystems (ext3, ext4, etc), automounts (autofs), NIS, LDAP, public/private key authentication, authentication (Centrify), Samba, NFS exports/imports, public/private networks configurations(LAN, WAN, MAN), InfiniBand Fabric Manager (OpenSM, UFM, etc), DNS, GRUB
· Planning, engineering, configuration, troubleshooting for tape systems hardware/server interfaces
· Hardware and Software Interfaces with various applications including: Omega (MMS), Accutrac, JSS, SQL databases (support for these is not part of responsibility; however, will be maintaining small scripts and programs to interface with these products)
· Queuing software knowledge (torque/moab, JSS) a plus, but not required.
Hardware related:
· Tape libraries: IBM 3494 and IBM 3584
· Tape Drives: 3490, 3590, 3592, etc.
· Configuration of ethernet and SAN fibre channel switches (a plus)
· Effective troubleshooting skills for working with a variety of servers and tape equipment; Interaction with customers, support, and external vendor support staff
· KVM switching technologies (including crash carts) to gain server access in data center
