Position Title – GIS Analyst

Worksite Address – Columbia, SC

Length of Project – 12+ Months (Extendable)

ROLE SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

* Utilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. 

*Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. 

*Recommends appropriate reactionary strategies inresponse to GIS analysis. 

*Provides maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis.

*Knowledgeable of GIS software and technology. 

*Works in conjunction with CADD drafters and technicians. 

*Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a

particular field. 

*Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of

the job. 

*Works under immediate supervision. 

*Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. 

*May require an associates degree in a related area and 1-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

REQUIRED SKILLS (RANK IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE):

 KNOWLEDGE OF GIS AND MAPPING SYSTEMS AND THE TOOLS NECESSARY

FOR DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION.

 WORKING EXPERIENCE WITH GIS APPLICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC

CARTOGRAPHIC STANDARDS.

 ABILITY AND DESIRE TO LEARN NEW SOFTWARE. MICROSOFT OFFICE.

 KNOWLEDGE OF GEOMEDIA, ARCGIST, BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF DIGITAL

REPRESENTATION OF TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM, EXPERIENCE IN MAP

PRODUCTION.

EDUCATION PREFERRED:

 Bachelor's degree in related area.
