Job Title: Data Analyst with SQL and Data Modeling experience
Location: Baltimore, MD
Type: 6 Month contract

Data Analyst Duties and Responsibilities
Data Analysis
• Responsible for direct interaction with the Business Consultants, DBA team and End User to gain a thorough understanding of the data being requested
• Responsible for mapping requested data fields from Third Party Systems to FGL data structures
• Responsible for the creation of data field conversions from Third Party Systems to FGL definitions
• Responsible for documenting Data requirements and effectively communicating them to the Development teams
• Responsible for working directly with the third party data staff to develop the requested data interfaces
• Responsible for testing the data received from the Third Party Systems for accuracy of format and conversion definitions
• Lead data efforts for all data related production support incidents
• Work independently with minimal direction
Data Mart Design
• Responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation and summarization of data in the generation of data marts and repositories
• Designs and or develops database objects (databases, tables, stored procedures, DTS Packages) to support the collection, tracking and reporting of business data
• Designs, develops and supports reporting tools that utilize advanced features in MS Excel and MS Access, i.e. VBA, macros
• Work with Developers to automate reports and processes
Data Consultation
• Responsible for acting in a consultative position for answering questions about the available data and the data that it is possible to capture from the third party systems
• Responsible for providing support for miscellaneous data projects
Data Governance
• Work with data team to maintain current and accurate Data Classifications
• Participate in Data Steward Council meetings and activities
• Support data needs and questions of Data Stewards
• Manage TPA Data Changes from inception to production
• Participate in all Data Quality initiatives
Required Experience
• Bachelor's degree (preferred emphasis in computer science or MIS)
• 5 + years of experience with Life Insurance and Indexed Annuity systems required
• Customer and results oriented
• 4 + years of experience with SQL Server 7.0 or higher
• 4 + years of experience developing logical and physical data models
• Experience in working with Data Governance Policies and Procedures
• Thorough understanding of the software development life cycle
• Excellent/proven troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
• Ability to use SQL development tools such as SQL Navigator and Toad as well as maintain code in source code control systems
• Experience in creating Data Marts and other Data Warehousing practices
• Strong time management and organizational skills to enable productivity in a fast-paced, dynamic development environment
• Knowledge of proper database normalization, indexing, transaction protection and locking is essential
• Strong technical documentation ability
• Strong verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in team-based development projects
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Must have a teamwork focused attitude and be skilled at building relationships within IT organizations and across business functions
