Job Description
• The back-end data engineer will work with research scientists, computational biologists, and a front-end data engineer to help define and prototype applications that help to advance Biogen's drug portfolio by enabling the integration and visualization of information related to drugs, potential targets, and competitive intelligence. This will include data integrations using vendor-supplied applications and network visualizations of potential protein-protein interactions generated by a computational reasoning engine.
Technical Skills
Required
• Very strong Java (Spring Framework) and/or Python
• Good core knowledge of Linux and shell scripting
• Experience with Docker and/or AWS
• Git, JIRA, Bamboo/Jenkins, Maven
• RESTful APIs
Preferred
• Knowledge of search technology (Elastic Search, Solr, Lucene)
• Understanding of SQL and NoSQL data stores
• Understanding of structured knowledge, representations and knowledge bases in biology (e.g. BEL, OBO/GO, ChEBI, MeSH)
• Experience working with graph algorithms (e.g. centrality, radiality, random walk, page rank, TieDIE)

Education and Experience
• Education: BS Information Science, Computer Science, Biology, pharmacology, chemistry or related science
• Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience in the life science industry, bioinformatics, or computational biology.
