They have a SQL Developer already. 

Looking for someone to design and then help build SQL DB environment on the server—right now it's on Server 2003 all single node systems.  

He's either gotten people who are too junior or overqualified.  Said if the person was Jr. but a quick study he would look at them. 

At some point, this person would help build out a data warehouse. 

 

Summary of Position

Responsible for the planning, implementation, configuration, administration and efficient operation of the company's database systems.

Specific Job Responsibilities

1.Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all database systems and associated hardware.

2.Analyze and report the state of database systems in order to make recommendations for improvement and growth.

3.Support and participate in cross functional efforts such as new implementations, application design, and data modeling.

4.Monitor the performance, integrity and quality of databases.

5.Develop database maintenance utilities to aid in developing/testing new applications. Provide testing databases for programming staff.

6.Contact database vendor support when necessary.

7.Review vendor proposals and provide database recommendations as needed.

8.Set up new users, manage roles, and maintain system security.

9.Define and maintain a formal back-up and recovery plan for database systems.

10.Acquire and maintain industry certification on database platforms.

11.Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

College degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering or equivalent business experience required.

Must have 5+ years of experience to include experience in implementing and managing MS-SQL.

Other database technologies such as Oracle, Sybase, DB2 are a plus. Insurance industry experience is a plus.
