Job Title               : MY SQL DBA /  Developer

Description:

We write an application that makes heavy use of MySQL.  Our use of MySQL is broken into a few different areas.

1.       Low insert volume configuration data.  Lots of interdependencies, but low insert rate.  Also a fairly low query rate, but some of the queries are complicated.

2.       High insert volume events.  Lots and lots of events getting written to the database (~10million rows in some cases). Tables are fairly simple and the indices on the data are fairly modest.

3.       Users can generate their own queries (some of which involve joins across the high volume tables)

4.       There are some canned queries that run on all of our devices as well.

 

What we're looking for:

1.       Someone who can make recommendations on engine configuration.  We've done a good deal of work here, but we are always looking for ways to improve

2.       Recommendations around handling the high event volume and supporting queries on the event tables.

3.       How to improve overall query times for the user generated queries

4.       How to maintain/improve current event ingestion rates.

5.       Recommendations on how to avoid physical table corruption when there are hard resets (wether it be power issues of other crashes)

6.       Any other best practices/recommendations on ensuring the best database performance possible on the gear we sell.

7.       I'm sure I'm missing stuff but you should get the idea.
