Job Title: Data Management & Big Data - Senior Engineer I

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Secondary locations: US-New York-New York

Duration: 3-6 Months C2H (Any visa)

v  H1B – at the time of submission, candidates must have:

       Minimum of 1 year left on current H1B (we need to make sure there is enough time for the Immigration department to file the extension)

       Minimum of 2.5 years with extensions

 

 

Job Description

 

American Express is looking for energetic, high-performing senior software engineers to help shape our technology and product roadmap. You will be leading fast-paced, entrepreneurial team, as a part of Data Insights & Big Data Platforms group. Focuses on Big Data and cutting edge data management/ real-time analytical solutions leveraging transformational technologies, Service Oriented Architecture for Data Management (ETL tool sets like, Datameer, Ab initio, Talend and Big Data Technology ,Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, HBase, Pig etc) to deliver innovative solutions across Global Corporate Payment Business Unit.

 

This role will work within the Data Platforms and Utilities within Global Corporate Payments group. This team provides a range of Corporate Card Programs, Supplier Payments Solutions and other expense management tools to help mid-size companies and large corporations around the world manage almost all the facets of their business spending - from travel and meetings to everyday office supplies and raw materials. Data Platforms and Utilities within this organization is responsible for the data processing, data delivery and data analytics of all corporate card transactions and respective folio information.

 

·         Primary focus is spent writing code, API specs, conducting code reviews & testing in ongoing sprints or doing proof of concepts/automation tools

·         Applies latest data management approach and other techniques to fast track concepts

·         Functions as a core member of an Agile team driving User story analysis & elaboration, design and development of software applications, testing & builds automation tools

·         Works on a specific platform/product or as part of a dynamic resource pool assigned to projects based on demand and business priority

·         Identifies opportunities to adopt innovative technologies

·         Lead next generation solution and drive POCs to implement them

·         Be visionary and drive long term platform / product roadmap.

·         Build cost effective and flexible product solution (Big Data , Cloud, Crowd Sourcing etc)

Qualifications

 

This high energy Senior Engineer must have:

·         6-8 years of software development experience

·         Demonstrated experience with Agile or other rapid application development methods

·         Demonstrated experience with data management , ETL, object-oriented design and coding with variety of languages and tools , Ab initio, Informatica, Talend Big Data Studio, Datameer, Java, J2EE, Big Data Components/ Frameworks (Hadoop, HBase, MapReduce, HDFS, Pig, Hive, Sqoop, Flume, Ozie, Avro etc) and other AJAX tools/ Frameworks.

·         Experience with SOLR, SOLACE ,Lucene, ElasticSearch, PMML, Memcached, MongoDB, or Graph databases is a plus.

·         Programming and language skills

·         Strong in Ab initio, and other ETL tools

·         Understanding and experience with UNIX / Shell / PL SQL scripting          

·         Knowledge of Perl / Python scripting languages

·         Strong Big Data end to end solution delivery

·         Prior experience in Java / Java EE

·         Data Modeling, Data Governance, Metadata and Master Data is desirable

·         Prior experience in process and tool automation

·         Hands-on expertise with application design, software development and automated testing

·         Must have 3-5 years of demonstrated experience leading teams of engineers

·         Demonstrated leadership in designing sustainable software products, setting development standards, automated code review process, continuous build and rigorous testing etc

·         Ability to effectively lead and communicate across 3rd parties, technical and business product managers on solution design

·         Experience with implementing integrated automated release management using tools/technologies/frameworks like Maven, Subversion, code/security review tools

·         Ability to enable business capabilities through innovation

·         Experience with web services , open API development, and SOA concepts

·         Advanced experience with parallel & distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, message queuing, and relational databases

·         Familiarity with information retrieval techniques is preferred

·         Good understanding of concurrent programming and related techniques

·         Web services design and implementation using REST, SOAP
