JOB DESCRIPTION:
Mandatory Skills:
• Storage hardware (IBM, HP and HDS SAN disk arrays, HDS HNAS) and SAN switches (CISCO)
• Storage management software (HDvM, StorageNavigator, HDS Device Manager, IBM SVC native utilities, HDS HNAS native utilities-SMU )
• CISCO Switch management software (Device Manager, Fabric Manager) and storage protocols.
• Storage virtualization techniques (Array based virtualization using HDS VSP and Storage virtualization using IBM SVC)
• Storage and switch performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools and techniques. Tools like HDS Tuning Manager, HP Performance Advisor, HDS Command Director, IBM TPC suite of products, CISCO Performance Manager, CA eHealth, BMC Best/1.
• IOmeter or similar I/O subsystem measurement tool
• Storage and switch performance measurement techniques and methodologies.
• Understanding of the dependencies of various platforms and their storage needs
• Understanding of Windows and UNIX Operating system administration
• Systems implementation and administration experience
• Performance analysis and planning methodology.
Desirable Skills:
Primarily focus on tasks associated with Performance planning of our Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) infrastructure, and the associated fiber infrastructure needed to support these technologies.
Roles and responsibilities:
• Applying performance planning and utilization best practices of applications to systems resources from planning through production
• Applying good organization and problem-solving skills.
• Applying knowledge in performance monitoring and planning methodologies.
• Applying specific expertise in one or more tools (e.g., IBM SVC native tooling, HP Storage Essentials, SRM Products for OpenSystems Storage, Cisco Device Manager, Cisco Fabric Manager, HDvM, HP Command View & Storage Works, IBM Tivoli Productivity Center)
• Applying proactive interaction conveying Performance management strategies and techniques
• Assisting in capturing measurements to ensure Service Level Objectives can be achieved and evaluated.
• Providing infrastructure performance assessment including complete analysis of perceived performance problems and be able to quantify results.
• Providing performance measurement and planning services to the State Farm Storage systems to ensure that the storage hardware/software resources meet the business demand of the State Farm enterprise
• Applying knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies, TCP/IP, and network protocols.
• Applying knowledgeable of Service Management/ITIL best practices
• Applying knowledge of project methodology/SDM.
