Shift:
The work schedules are listed below. Please make sure the candidates are okay with working one or both of the shifts listed.
o 2nd shift (4pm – 1am => 8 hour shift with an hour for a meal) Monday – Friday and be available for on-call rotations during the weekends
o 3rd shift (11pm – 8am => 8 hour shift with an hour for a meal) Monday – Friday and be available for on-call rotations during the weekends
*The hiring manager only wants to review candidates with 7+ years of DB2 DBA experience.
Job Description:
GENERAL FUNCTION:
This is a Contract DB2 z/OS DBA position, responsible for supporting the organization's DB2z database initiatives and ensuring their performance, availability, and security.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for database object creation based on site standards for large scale OLTP and Data Warehouse Star Schema environments
- Provide design assistance with large partitioned objects
- Build compression dictionaries on very large objects
- Create automated REORG and Partition Rotation scripts by using IBM DB2 Utilities and in-house SQL Stored Procedures.
- Provide SQL performance tuning on both OLTP and Data warehouse environments
- Optimize DB2 resource utilization by tuning queries, recommending indexes, and configuring database parameters
- Provide data migration support
- Provide job scheduling support between application and utility jobs
- Perform database capacity planning, object sizing and trend analysis
- Deploy database changes in strict accordance with change management policies and procedures
- Interact and coordinate directed work with System Administrators, Project Managers and fellow team members to support various project requests
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- 7 years of DB2z database administration experience and production support
- DB2z V9 or v10 experience
- Not required but prefer DB2 V9 or v10 database certification
- Experience working with very large database partitioning
- Experience working with large systems in data sharing sysplex environment
- Preferred experience in data modeling with Star Schema and *Operational Data Store* concepts
- Experience working with IBM Admin tool suite, Query Monitor, and Omegamon (DB2 PE)
- In-depth knowledge of IBM DB2 utilities such as LOAD, UNLOAD (HPU), RUNSTAT, REORG, COPY, COPYTOCOPY, MERGECOPY, MODIFY and SPUFI.
- Solid understanding of DB2 client tools such as DB2 Connect, Visual Explain and Data Studio
- Hands on experience with performance tuning of complex SQLs
- Experience with DB2 SQL Stored Procedures
- Candidate must have excellent communication skills
