Position: Sr Network Specialist

Location: Bakersfield, CA

Duration: 12 Months

Job Description:

Daily responsibility is to support Company's Network Operational issues with the LAN, WAN and Data center.

Will be tasked with projects that require Business Unit interactions on a Global scale.

Must have strong back ground in Cisco Network Switching and Routing.

Should have higher level Cisco Certifications.

Must have extensive experience in network data center technologies

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Planning: Conducts short- and long-term planning to meet network requirements.
  
• Network System Design and Implementation: Designs and implements network systems.
  
• Strong working familiarity with Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and NXOS with hands-on experience configuring routers, switches.
  
• Network Connectivity: Provides support for network connectivity or related network issues for the user community.
  
• Network Installation: Plans and monitors the installation of network systems.
  
• Network Monitoring: Analyzes network activity and network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors. Recommends network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance.
  
• Issue Resolution: Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves network problems. Researches, analyzes and recommends the implementation of software or hardware changes to rectify any network deficiencies or to enhance network performance.
  
• Capacity Planning: Analyzes facilities bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies. Develops capacity planning models.
  
• Disaster Recovery: Ensures planned testing activities are performed and technical criteria are met.
  
• Network Performance Assessment: Assesses network performance to ensure that it meets the present and future needs of the business. Provides network planning recommendations to management.

• Vendor Management: Evaluates services provided by vendors and recommends changes.
  
• Knowledge of Enterprise system monitoring and management tools such as Netcool, Splunk, Wireshark, Riverbed Cascade.
  
• Knowledge of commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide network services, including: DNS, TACACS+, VPN and NAC.
  
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with ConocoPhillips's International staff.
  
• Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to provide the "Fischer Price" explanation of technology for nontechnical managers, directors and above. Great people skills are a must!
  
• Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required
  

DECISION MAKING:

• This position works under limited supervision.
  
• Designs technical solutions and coordinates with the international staff to ensure timely and accurate implementation.
  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  
• Six to ten years of relevant IT work experience.
  
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP),
  

Candidates who do not currently possess the CCNP certification, but meet all other minimum requirements, may be considered for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  
• CCIE Certifications.
  
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix and other open source software to include BIND and Nessus.
  
• Experience with Cisco enterprise grade products to include: Nexus 7000, 6500, 4500, ISR G2, TACACS+, NAC.
  
• Advanced knowledge of IOS, NX-OS, EIGRP, BGP, GRE.
  

JOB DIMENSIONS:

Regular contact with internal and external customers and contractor representatives involved with LAN/WAN design, network implementation, and network management.

May be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as nights, weekends.
