Network Engineer

Location: Foxboro, MA

Duration: 12 M

Rate: $50/hr c2c

 

Responsibilities include:

 

•    Provide daily engineering support of the HUIT network infrastructure

•    Solve technical/infrastructure client issues

•    Procurement of hardware and software, inventory tracking, as well as providing technical leadership for Field Engineers and Operations Support staff

•    Assist & provide project leadership in completing project tasks

•    Serve as a key resource to the HUIT team/ key IT stakeholders throughout the University

•    Mentor Network Engineers, Field LAN & Wireless Engineers, NOC Technicians, Systems Engineers

•    All members of the team are encouraged to explore new technologies. HUIT supports ongoing professional development including conference attendance, course work and experimentation

•    Participation in a 24 x 7 x 365 on-call rotation schedule is required

Basic Qualifications          •    Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science, and / or a minimum of 5 -7 years demonstrated technical network experience in a large Cisco LAN/WAN environment

•    A minimum of 3 years of network related project management experience.

•    Proven knowledge of established Ethernet, BGP, OSPF, Spanning Tree Protocol, and

•    multicasting, DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP, IPv6 is a must

Additional Qualifications               •    Content / Load balancing, Network Security, Firewalls, VPN as well as network management software experience

•    Demonstrated experience in AWS networking and/or other cloud provider environments

•    Industry certifications for network and design and implementation or equivalent professional experience, desirable

•    The ideal candidate should have advanced understanding of Cisco ASA firewalls, Fortinet firewalls, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS), Ethernet switching, IPSEC VPNs, NAT, DHCP, DNS

•    Experience working on optical transport technologies such as Cisco ONS15454, Cisco NCS 2000, Ciena or similar platforms

•    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel as part of a cross functional team. Experience with current best practices in IT standards (ITIL), principles, and security practices

•    Previous experience working in High Performance Research Computing environments and building high throughput networks

•    Ability to develop custom scripts in python/perl is a plus
