Senior Software Engineer, Ruby on Rails
Tribune is one of the country's leading multimedia companies, operating businesses in publishing, digital and broadcasting. The company's broadcasting group operates 23 television stations, WGN America on national cable and Chicago's WGN-AM. Popular news and information websites complement Tribune's print and broadcast properties and extend the company's nationwide audience.
Tribune Technology is seeking a highly-motivated Sr. Ruby on Rails (RoR) Developer to join the Tribune Technology team. Work with seasoned web professionals to develop high-traffic, dynamic, multi-media web sites and products. This position will be responsible for the creation, publication, maintenance and coordination of multiple online products and web sites.
Required skills:
- Experience building n-tiered, high-volume, consumer-facing Internet applications using the Ruby on Rails framework.
- Thorough knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL), schema design and implementation, and SQL.
- Deep understanding of Object to Relational Mapping techniques.
- Experience with XML, JavaScript, HTTP, HTML, and Web Services.
- Strong Experience working in UNIX environments (Solaris, Linux).
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills, as there is a high degree of user interaction.
· Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, and procedures, with an emphasis on Agile methodologies (XP or Scrum) and Test-Driven Development.
- Strong problem solving skills
- Must be able to participate in occasional travel to Tribune business units, vendors, or client sites
Other preferred skills:
· JavaScript libraries including jQuery and Prototype
· MVC Frameworks
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
- The ideal profile includes 5+ years of object-oriented development
- 4+ years of Ruby on Rails experience is a strong plus
