Job Description:
The UNIX/Storage Systems Administrator position requires a broad set of skills and will be responsible for designing, installing, configuring, documenting, implementing, and supporting UNIX servers for production, test, and development environments, including management and maintenance of all Storage Area Network (SAN) components. This position is responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of efficient and effective backup/restore procedures for all open system platforms in the environment to ensure systems recoverability in the event of system failure, data loss, or corruption. Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing procedures for asset management, software distribution, and software currency in a Windows environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Installs, configures, administers, tunes and optimizes complex server operating systems (UNIX, LINUX) and related components, to achieve high availability and performance.
2. Plans, designs, sustains, and performance-tunes Storage Area Network (SAN) environments, while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability, as well as provision storage, monitor storage usage, capacity, and performance.
3. Develops and maintains proper monitoring and reporting of utilization for all aspects of the backup environment, including installing Veritas software, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and throughput analysis; media handling to and from off-site storage facility.
4. Develops, configures, and maintains user/group accounts, process improvement procedures, scripting, task automation, system monitoring, file system management, and disaster recovery for the organizations UNIX infrastructure.
5. Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves hardware and software related problems.
6. Provides efficient and reliable storage allocation and defines backup, recovery, and archival procedures and develops and implements business continuity practices for storage management.
7. Provides technical consultation and guidance on complex projects with peers, management, and internal customers; may act as the technical lead for new IT projects.
8. Acts as a key contributor and architect for enterprise wide information system solutions.
9. Enforces policies related to the tiering of data on the Storage Area Network.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING
The UNIX/Storage Systems Administrator receives functional guidance from Manager, Data Center and works under limited supervision. The incumbent uses independent judgment to organize and prioritize work.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
HP-UX/Solaris Certified Systems Administrator (CSA.), Redhat RHCE or RHCT, or other Enterprise Linux certification.
Four years experience in a computer related field including four years' as a systems administrator.
2 years experience administering Storage Area Networks in an enterprise environment.
2 years Unix System Administration experience in a production, 24/7 environment.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Master's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
Certification in Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE.)

• May be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as nights and weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally. Subject to sitting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and standing for long periods of time. Requires visual acuity, speech and hearing. May operate a company or personal vehicle on a daily basis. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with occasional field visits
