Job Description:

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the day to day operations of the organizations core voice and data networks, enterprise network architecture, network technology evaluations, protocol analysis, configuration, research, complex trouble shooting and analysis and special network projects. In addition, this senior resource will take an active role in capacity planning, network monitoring and technology mentoring. May direct assigned project staff to develop and/or implement large, complex technology solutions supporting one or more business and/or technology areas. Able to demonstrate a strong ability to multi-task in an environment of constantly changing priorities.

 

As a member of the Network Infrastructure team, typical duties include:

·         Responsible for ensuring highly available movement of data through the networks that comprise the enterprise network infrastructure.

·         Solid working knowledge of capabilities and direction of technology, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the technology required and the needs of business environment necessary to support assigned projects.

·         Designs, develops and implements data and voice networks which serve the business needs of the enterprise, its departments, and information systems.

·         Interfaces with client counterparts and network providers to establish the required connectivity to deliver client services

·         Provides highly skilled technical assistance in network planning, engineering, and architecture.

·         Develops technical standards, identifies and evaluates new products, and provides resolution for issues.

·         Expand the monitoring and reporting tool suite, providing a proactive approach to supporting the network infrastructure and to achieve optimum performance levels.

·         Identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance.

·         Evaluates and identifies opportunities for network performance and functionality improvements

·         Evaluates new products/technologies to determine impact on existing system configurations.

·         Provides integrated team support and maintenance of network hardware and software.

·         Provides guidance and direction for less experienced engineers.

·         Adheres to change control policies and procedures.

·         Technical Skill Sets Requirements and Professional Qualifications

·         Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required.

·         Seven or more years of Network Engineering experience required

·         Active CCNA and/or CCNP certification

·         In-depth knowledge of enterprise networking systems, concepts, applicable methodologies, tools, standards, procedures and policies

·         Proven proficiency in the use of network monitoring or other optimization tools such as Solar Winds, CiscoWorks, etc.

·         Understanding of Scrutinizer  NetFlow, Bluecoat Proxy, Riverbed Optimizer, Juniper SA6500 VPN Appliance

·         Expertise in many of the following protocols and technologies: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VOIP, STP, RSTP, TCP/IP, IP, 802.1d, 802.1x, 802.1q, DS1/3, 802.11a/b/g/n, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP

·         Knowledge of the major router and switching platforms:

·         Cisco Catalyst 65xx, 45xx, 37xx, 29xx

·         Cisco 65xx, 72xx, 36xx, 37xx, 28xx

·         Cisco ASA 55xx

·         Cisco Nexus 7000 - must
