Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Yankee Candle Company's Linux and Unix compute, storage and backup infrastructure in cooperation with IT teams, individual team members and outsource partners. This includes design, build and implementation of various systems along with monitoring, documentation of processes and maintenance procedures, providing recommendations for improvements, etc. This position has on-call responsibilities and access to confidential information.
Job Description Overview:
Maintain operations of the Yankee Candle Company's Linux and Unix compute and storage infrastructure by ensuring the proper functioning of servers, operating systems, directory services, SAN and NAS storage, enterprise applications and common network services. Ensure consistent levels of performance and uptime by adhering to standards and best practices. Provide management with current operating conditions and recommendations for improvements to the security and performance of the computing infrastructure.
Job Specific Roles and Tasks:
Build and maintain server hardware and software systems to provide Yankee Candle Company with an optimal computing environment. Implement and sustain reliable operations of Linux\Unix-based systems in support of ERP and database applications. Collaborate with IT team members and outsourced partners to review opportunities, challenges, and practices. 20%
Provide Linux\Unix server hardware and operating system subject matter expertise to various application and inter-disciplined corporate projects. Continuously upgrade skill sets to remain current with installed systems. 20%
Work with IT team members and outsourced partners in the implementation of new technologies to enhance application performance, availability and productivity. Assist with project planning as needed by providing cost and time estimates for proposed work. 20%
Maintain infrastructure inventory (both onsite and hosted); tracking location, current use, configuration, hardware/software/firmware version, and support and upgrade information. Track the availability and location of media sets, parts and service components. 5%
Monitor server performance and end user experience by utilizing software tools for efficient and proper operations. Communicate results through periodic reports and dashboards. 5%
Serve as a liaison to various outsource partners, including roles as project manager, point of contact for application support and local subject matter expert of company processes and IT initiatives. 10%
Recommend and implement procedures in support of Data Center Recovery and Business Continuity Planning. Manage and maintain regular backup/restore systems, processes and jobs. 20%
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (preferably Management Information Systems) or equivalent experience; minimum five years Linux\Unix administration experience.
Knowledge of Operating Systems including Red Hat Linux, Oracle Enterprise Linux and HP-UX required.
Familiarity with HP Superdome and HP ProLiant servers
Knowledge of HP 3PAR, EMC Symmetrix SANs and NetApp NAS storage arrays.
Knowledge of basic fiber interconnects between compute and storage resources.
Knowledge of SAN storage administration
Knowledge of Commvault Simpana Backup software and related equipment such as disk and tape systems.Knowledge of Shell scripting
Virtualization including VMWare and Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM)Security minded individual, familiar with best practices and concepts regarding system design, build and implementation.
Excellent organizational, troubleshooting and communication skills are required, as is the ability to work with people from varied organizational levels and companies.Excellent oral and written communication; as well as tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external partners.
Travel:
Ability to travel for server repair, training, conferences, and meetings as required. Flexible work schedule required.
