Senior Storage/Backup Systems Engineer 3
Summary: Responsible for the engineering of and level 3 type support of our NetApp storage as well as Symantec Netbackup/Spectralogic tape library environments. The Netbackup and NetApp environments support our entire distributed platforms (Unix, NT). This role will provide primary design responsibility for our Symantec Netbackup environment as well as act as primary liaison between company and IPSoft (our current level 1 and 2 Netbackup support vendor). It will also be responsible for the design and support of our NetApp storage environments. As the organization continues its move to hosted options, this responsibility will expand to ensure that the hosting facilities backups and storage offerings are implemented in such a way to ensure reliable backup/recovery and storage solutions using the hosting provider's offerings.
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's (required) or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.
• 8+ years of work experience in backup and storage architectures with demonstrated mastery of technical and business knowledge and understanding of multiple discipline/processes related to the position.
• Typically leads/mentors less experienced staff or complex projects in area of expertise.
Skills and Competencies:
• Proficiency in the implementation and maintenance of integrated systems across hardware and software platforms.
• In depth knowledge of system integration issues, especially those related to large enterprise backup and storage environments.
• Senior-level technical working knowledge of Netbackup backup application.
• Specific technical working knowledge of UNIX operating systems.
• Specific technical working knowledge of NT operating systems.
• Specific technical working knowledge of NetApp or other storage systems.
• Syncsort experience is a plus but not required.
• Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Expert ability to work independently and manage one's time.
• Expert ability to identify, interpret and evaluate system and network requirements.
• Expert knowledge of networking computer hardware and software.
