Complete Description:
The SIS Implementation consultant will play a lead role in configuring and coding customizations for the new Student Information System being deployed by DCPS. They will determine the best approach to implement features to support DCPS requirements. They will also play a leadership/mentor role for other technical resources on the team. In addition to supporting the SIS directly they will also help to design and code peripheral solutions such as data dashboards and reporting tools and plan out what should be built to implement the long term vision for DCPS Data Systems
Primary duties:
• Works directly with other programs and offices within DCPS to understand overall DCPS needs and implement strategic rather than tactical solutions
• Design and code customizations and configurations of Student Information System
• Work with DBA resources to design ETL approachs for reporting on data in SIS
• Works with other data system technical resources to put in place application development standards
• Investigates new technologies and suggests new solutions to business problems
• Supports and carries out the Chancellor's mission to transform DC Public Schools and close the achievement gap
• Performs other related duties as assigned
Professional/Educational Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree
• Experience in working with data systems at a k-12 school district, especially an urban district
• 13 to 15 years experience in application development, especially using Open Source frameworks and tools
• Strong experience with Perl & SQL especially in the use of ETL scripts
• Strong experience with XML and Java programming
• High degree of comfort in working within a heterogeneous system environment
• Bonus would be experience in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), REST, and/or AWS or other cloud IAAS providers
