Job Description: The worker performs advanced senior-level database administration, maintenance and support of SQL server systems to optimize the data environment and performance tune databases. Work involves providing input and guidance in strategic operations; planning, developing, and implementing database procedures; and ensuring data integrity. This position also involves coordinating and validating software installations, customization, performance tuning, capacity planning and high availability of databases and the programming environment. The worker performs related work as assigned; attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule; ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information; and complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Requirements Minimum Skills Requirement in years
Years Skills/Experience
7 Experience performing database performance monitoring, recommending and implementing efficiency improvements for the SQL Server database servers.
7 Experience maintaining and supporting SQL Server database servers, applications and legacy systems, including user account requests, performance and log monitoring, maintenance/backup jobs, custom Visual Basic, Java, Access and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) front end applications.
7 Experience supporting software developers with database operations, including the development of complex SQL, T-SQL and the creation of stored procedures.
7 Experience designing and supporting data transformation services (DTS) and SQL server integration services (SSIS) extract, transform, load (ETL) packages.
7 Experience with installation of database software and migrations to new data management system software levels, and ensures that migrations are appropriately tested and validated.
5 Experience working with other departments to streamline data processes and implements policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the agency databases.
5 Skill in identifying and resolving problems using strong analytical techniques, innovative approaches, and taking initiative in preventing and solving problems.
4 Skill in effective oral and written communication.
4 Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer databases, programming, and systems design; computer operations, systems, and procedures
4 Knowledge of computer database application systems, data processing flowcharting techniques, database structures and theories, current database technologies; and data analysis and evaluation techniques.
4 Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
4 Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
4 Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
4 Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment

4 Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or closely related discipline
4 Experience with MS SQL Server 2008 R2 or above.
4 Experience with ETL packages including DTS, SSIS and BCP.
4 Experience in providing technical support for system architecture planning and design
