Our team focuses on all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle and own service quality, performance, and delivery to our global audiences. A Lot About You In this senior technical role, you will not only have broad responsibility for the delivery of our next generation Search and Advertising offerings, but also play a foundational role in determining how those solutions will be built, brought to market, and managed for maximum performance and availability. You have expertise and passion for delivering web applications (all tiers) at large scale and the ability to context switch and work at the strategic, architectural, and operational levels. You will be a major contributor to our goal of having tools and automation for our whole end to end operation Your Day Responsible for engagement with Product Management, Development, and Quality Engineering to provide guidance on Operability, Release and Configuration Management, infrastructure and application capacity management and provisioning. Create, maintain, and document tools and automation for handling system state and operations across a complex global infrastructure. Capacity Management for all tiers across multiple applications Design tools, runbooks, and provide training for operations staff responsible for providing 24*7 site up services for the application portfolio. Design, Implement, and maintain monitoring to provide complete transparency to application and system state, history, and trends. Act as an escalation point for operations staff members and be the resident expert for your technology portfolio. Engage with technology teams across the company to share best practices and leverage tools and code for re-use as effectively as possible in support of the engineering portfolio.
You Must Have 4+ years of production engineering related experience with BS degree, preferably in Computer Science Expert level experience with Linux operating systems, including the ability to performance tune the OS and applications suites Strong scripting skills: Perl required, Python or Ruby on Rails preferred Knowledge of IP networking, DNS, load balancing and CDN Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Gomez or other equivalent industry standard tools Experience with Continuous Deployment preferred Experience with Chef, Puppet, and/or other tools in production environments at scale preferred
