This is our direct-client opening for a Performance Engineer located in Herndon, VA for a 6+ month contract opportunity. An in-person interview is required so the client prefers candidates who are local to the area or can fly in to meet the team.
The Performance Engineer analyzes web applications looking for performance issues that could affect users. This position is primarily responsible for analyzing performance requirements, developing test scenarios and test scripts, executing test scripts and reviewing and documenting test results. In addition, the Performance Engineer will be responsible for managing Web application performance test programs, tools and procedures with the objective of ensuring that all public-facing and internal Web applications are written and implemented in a manner that offers full scalability of our clients' Systems
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with engineering, architecture, IT operations, and product management teams to define the performance requirements for new product releases.
Develop and review performance targets and test strategies, plans, and profiles to ensure coverage of product features and meeting release schedules.
Determine test data needs.
Develop test scenarios and test scripts for execution
Develop utilities to support data creation, database restoration and other performance test pre-requisites
Schedule and coordinate testing activities occurring in the performance test environment
Write clear and concise performance reports and review them with clients.
Review, analyze and document test results and metrics with recommendations to the engineering leadership and senior members of the technical team.
Rewrite/refactor existing framework and scripts for standard baseline, capacity, and stability tests (optimizing/simplifying/automating as appropriate).
Represent the performance team and manage the team's deliverables/commitments.
Create and maintain sizing guides and help scope hardware needs.
Handle special requests from operations for hardware testing and certification.
Document and provide guidance to performance test practice in respect to best practices, process improvement and performance test strategies.
Minimum 5 years of experience in all aspects of performance testing of web applications
Experience with coding in JAVA - Java Frameworks (Struts, JSF, Spring), Servlets, JSP, EJB
Experience with scripting using a performance test tool
Strong knowledge of performance concepts (e.g., response time, throughput, system-resource utilization)
Experience debugging performance issues and identifying bottlenecks in application layers
Experience with LoadRunner, NeoLoad, or equivalent tool (Neoload experience a plus)
Extensive experience working in UNIX-based environments
Strong knowledge of Oracle and JVM
Good understanding of multi-tier applications and knowledge of Load Balancer
Knowledge of ORM tools (Hibernate, iBatis)
Software Development Lifecycle (Agile)
RDBMS experience (Oracle)
Web Services (SOAP, REST)
SOA, UML, MVC Development experience in relational databases
