Java Application Admin
Location: Reston VA (phone then face/face-must be local)
· 2-5 years of experience in Operate and support a suite of Java-based Web Services
· Familiarity with Windows Server OS, .NET framework and IIS.
· Support deployment automation software.
· Advanced knowledge of Linux OS, shell scripting and GNU tools.
· Strong foundation in some of the following technologies desired: Java, Groovy, Python, Ruby, shell scripts SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL.
Operate and support a suite of Java-based Web Services – The hub of our content delivery platform for video, images and metadata for Client most cutting edge products.
· Diagnose problems with our Web-based enterprise application and various vertical applications.
· Troubleshoot infrastructure and network issues as possible causes of poor service performance.
· Respond to alerts, including those escalated to you by our Global Operations Center.
· Contribute in writing and in person to root cause analysis meetings as part of process improvement.
· Monitor servers & services (Nagios, Splunk) and develop custom alerts to do the same.
· Help develop & test tools to interface with RESTful Web Services.
· Support deployment automation software.
· Work closely with peer teams to deliver high availability and optimum performance for customers -- video and metadata engineering, Business and Product.
· Participate in a 2 nd-tier on-call rotation.
Qualifications
· A keen analytical, structured and detail-oriented approach to problem solving and troubleshooting.
· BS/BA in a related field or equivalent experience is required, e.g. Computer Science.
· Formal training and experience in object-oriented and/or functional programming required.
· Significant application support background, e.g. Unix and Web middleware development and/or QA
· Advanced knowledge of Linux OS, shell scripting and GNU tools.
· Exposure to JMX, JConsole, & other profiling tools.
· Prior work in the testing or support of Web based solutions or other enterprise software.
· Production operations experience required, e.g. Root Cause Analysis and process improvement.
· Strong foundation in the following technologies desired: Java, Groovy, Python, Ruby, shell scripts SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL.
· Familiarity with Windows Server OS, .NET framework and IIS.
· Experience in virtualized environments, Web Services, and streaming media a plus.
· Customer-first attitude and strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Adept and comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment required.
· Video encoding and transcoding systems administration and operation a big plus.
· Familiarity with Web content management systems (e.g. Brightcove, thePlatform) a big plus.
