I.    POSITION SUMMARY:

Sr. Network Engineer

This position is a senior design role in which the individual will function as a subject matter expert in all aspects of data center and networking technologies. The individual in this role will be expected to routinely design elegant solutions to complex network and telecom related requirements. Scope and function will span multiple network technologies and the individual in this role must have extensive hands-on experience and thorough understanding of component interaction. Leads fluid teams of technical personnel to deliver cohesive solution designs.  This includes, utilizing expertise to develop standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with best-practice and regulatory guidelines. Will work with a group of approximately 2 -4 technical solutions engineers and will focus on the development of end-to-end services based on documented business requirements, producing high quality, efficient, cost effective, secure, and resilient solutions. 

II.   PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Network Engineering
    1. Designs communications network solutions and assists in developing functional requirements
    1. Works on multiple simultaneous projects to design new technologies and configurations
    2. Contributes to validation of proposed network solutions and integration methodologies
    3. Accountable for technical input for the architecting and designing of the Forest network
    4. Serves as technical consultant to business unit network projects
    5. Serves as an ad-hoc representative of Technical services management in various technical meetings
    6. Demonstrate appropriate solution validation best practices through structured system testing methodologies.

 

  1. Provide level-3 support when technical escalation is requested by Operations group.
  2. Conducts research, product evaluations, develops recommendations
  3. Ability to develop proof-of-concepts to establish necessity, effectiveness, and alignment with business objectives.
  4. Prepares and delivers presentations to multiple levels of management
  5. Participates in weekly Engineering team meetings
  6. Ensure Infrastructure Service Designs are produced to meet and fulfill the documented business requirements, technology architecture and Infrastructure Service Strategies.
  7. Produce and maintain all aspects of IT specification, including the overall designs, topologies and configurations of the infrastructure environment, infrastructure applications and data, and the technical design documentation of all IT systems.
  8. Translate solution requirements into logical and physical designs, taking account of business needs, target environments, processes, performance requirements, existing systems, architecture and services, and any potential safety-related aspects.
  9. Assess and identify weaknesses in network, application, software, and operating system implementations and provide guidance to mitigate gaps.
  10. Perform investigative analysis at the request of management.
  11. Assist in the development of budgetary proposals and financial analytics in support of the company's annual fiscal budget cycle.
  12. Ability to redesign an existing service capability in lieu of changing business requirements.

III.   REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have demonstrated 7 years of progressive technical responsibility and knowledge.
  2. Must have the willingness to learn and be able to flourish in a process driven environment.
  3. Must have the ability to produce technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of innovation and creativity.
  4. Must have the ability to exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments.
  5. Must have the ability to take ownership and drive a project from start-to-completion with limited direction.
  6. Must have the ability to communicate and articulate technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audience.

IV.   PREFERRED SKILLS:

  1. Expert level Knowledge of EIGRP and BGP routing protocols,
  2. Current working experience on Cisco NX-OS, IOS, and IOS-XR.
  3. Expert level knowledge on current VPN technologies (GET, DMVPN, IPSEC, GRE, Etc.)
  4. Cisco ASR and ISR Routers, Nexus 7000, 5500, 2200 FEX, and current LAN switching hardware
  5. Familiarity with Cisco's Smart Business Architecture
  6. Working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as Cisco VDC, VSS, Nexus 1000v and other hypervisor technologies.
  7. Multicast experience preferred.
  8. Familiarity with OTV, and Fabric Path technologies.
  9. Working knowledge of QOS, DSCP, and queuing models on cisco LAN switching platforms
  10. Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, PHP, and XML is a plus.
  11. WAN optimization experience is a plus.
