Job Summary:
This person will be part of a growing team that will support Comcast's residential and commercial anti-abuse/anti-spam messaging systems. The responsibilities for this position include a full range of activities required to combat spam, phishing, email-borne viruses, and bot nets, including working with vendors, developing new policies and systems, and performing operational activities including monitoring, reporting and analytics.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent in work experience and self-study.
- Advanced degree is a plus.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Ability to deliver the items listed in the major duties section, as well as an ability to multi-task between several projects, and ability to adapt to change.
- At least 2 years of engineering experience or Linux system administration experience in a large-scale enterprise or service provider environment.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Internet protocols and standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, SSL and HTTP.
- Demonstrated experience with security policy, including email and/or web threats and knowledge of common anti-abuse strategies and methodologies.
- At least 2 years' experience with implementing and maintaining large scale messaging systems is preferred.
- Proficient with Perl/Python & shell scripting.
- Experience with Java, JavaScript, and databases is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret SMTP logs, non-delivery messages, and rejection codes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Must be able to author and interpret detailed requirements/specifications, and work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizations and with large groups.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimum direction.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries.
- Must be a flexible, resourceful, team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- Creative thinking, critical analysis, and problem solving skills are essential.
Major Duties:
- Work with cross-functional team to support commercial and residential anti-abuse/anti-spam platform, including off-hours support when necessary.
- Respond to and resolve operational mail problems and adhere to service level agreements.
- Work within team to ensure capacity and stability of anti-abuse environments are at acceptable level.
- Assist in performing Linux administration, installation, upgrades, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting on a platform of over 200 servers.
- Assist with application software installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting as needed.
- Perform troubleshooting and coordinate problem resolution activities with other support teams (e.g. applications support, network support, vendors).
- Assist in producing Root Cause Analysis findings that focus on recommendations to learn from and avoid problem recurrence.
- Assist in the development of test plans/cases to be used in verifying documented requirements.
- Support testing organizations with the testing and certification process.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with vendors and peer organizations (e.g. Operational Support).
- Assist with making vendor selections and developing schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
