Network Specialists responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: • Provide technical high-level network analysis, review, design, and configuration that may require project lead experience – specific projects to include reviewing existing VPN and access control servers, update, repair, and ensure redundant performance; documentation of implemented or effected processes • Perform an analysis of the current network architecture with emphasis on the migration from a large layer 2 design to a distributed layer 3 design – specific project to include development of a new IP addressing structure for a layer 3 network with emphasis on ease of ongoing management and accountability • Provide ongoing operational support and transition knowledge of varying complexity to other networking staff and to client-facing support staff as needed for all network and telecommunication components • Provide technical skills for configuration of the existing core and distribution network layers to include routers and firewalls – specific project to include updating IOS on existing core equipment and implementation of Cisco ASDM • Collaborate and communicate with contracted vendor to provide support of the network core and distribution layer refresh. This will include implementation of netflow network visibility tools. The implementation should result in obtaining data to support network architecture design and business-related network usage decisions • Provide technical support, design and configuration with the existing wireless network infrastructure • Provide review and support of the campus VoIP telephony system, ensure redundancy and restoration capabilities • Create technical documentation and reference materials and provide informal training for other network staff • Perform other network duties as assigned |
Required: • An in-depth knowledge of core and distribution layer network infrastructures • An in-depth knowledge of layer 2 and layer 3 network designs • An in-depth knowledge of firewall and network security design • An in-depth knowledge of VoIP infrastructures • Virtualization (Server and Desktop) • Higher education network design and support or implementation • Cisco core, distribution, data center, and access layer component, installation and configuration • Cisco VoIP installation and configuration • Experience with LANs, VLANs, WANs, WLANs, VPN, TCP/IP, AAA, TACACS, RADIUS, Netflow, Firewalls, ACL’s, multiple routing protocols, NAT, Syslog, Network Access Control, Policy-based routing • Knowledge of SANs; Server Platforms; • Session initiation protocol (SIP); voice, data and unified communications; and programming techniques. • Experience developing technical and non-technical solutions for supporting business process reengineering. • Experience with large scale projects crossing multiple functional areas. • Comfortable with hands-on technical consultation roles and working with other network and IT staff • Able to produce and review documents related to technical requirements, designs and implementation plans. • Must have technical lead experience on medium to large, IT infrastructure implementation projects. Preferred: • CCNP, CCIE or equivalent experience. • Eight (8) years of experience as a Network Specialist or equivalent • Server and desktop virtualization experience (VMware) |
