Description

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a Big Data Engineer in the Editorial & Content Technologies organization. This person will be responsible for delivering on the implementation of large scale and complex projects using Big Data technologies and will also need to share Big Data expertise and best practices with the other team members.  Primary Job Duties:  • Provide strong Big Data design, development and coding expertise on large, compex projects.  • Participate in the full life-cycle of software development; including analysis, design, implementation and testing of new projects and features using Spark, Scala, Java and other Big Data technologies.  • Share and communicate technical knowledge, expertise and best practices to the other developers on the team related to Big Data technologies.   • Provide development estimates and timelines and track progress against these timelines. Responsible for providing progress update reports and informing management of issues.  • Identify process and technology practices related to architecture and development that can improve efficiency and add business value.  • Generate innovative approaches and solutions to technology challenges.  Qualifications / Requirements  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related studies (Masters desired)  • Direct professional hands on experience developing Big Data applications using Spark, Scala and Java  • At least two years of experience with Hadoop, HDFS, and MapReduce or Hive  • At least one year of experience with Scala and Spark, Avro, and Parquet  • Experience with other Hadoop related technologies such as HBase, Sqoop, Oozie and Kafka  • Linked Data, Docker, Datameer/Platfora and Cask CDAP experience a bonus  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to deliver results with aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities and exhibit technical leadership  • Demonstrated ability to mentor/train other developers on Big Data technologies  • Proven track record of being able to solve complex problems independently and to seek out and generate innovative solutions  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  • Experience on project using an Agile software development methodology a plus
